The two franchises made history by playing the first match of the UAE’s brand new league – DP World ILT20 – about two weeks ago, but the result was the same.

At the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday, Dubai Capitals emerged victorious, winning by seven wickets in a canter, while Abu Dhabi Knights lost again.

The win keeps the Capitals in playoff contention, while the Cavaliers are sidelined.

Against a modest 150 points, it could be a banana peel for the Capitals, especially against a team still looking for that elusive Game 1 win. But they make sure they don’t miss out on orders from the top, and they take a calculated chase to get the job done.

Openers George Muncy and Nileshan Dickwella hit 59 off just 37 balls to get them on their way.

After Dickwella scored a stunning 37 in 22 deliveries with four boundaries and two sixes, Munsey and Dasun Shanaka’s crucial 62 union over 44 deliveries brought them closer to goal.

While Shanaka (28) didn’t see the chase over until the very end, his Sri Lankan compatriot Lahiru Kumara retaliated after he was smashed after consecutive deliveries of six runs and boundaries, with skippers Rovman Powell and Sikandar Raza taking over their line.

Munsey’s victory was in sight but the Scot did his job, calling up an elaborate 57 from 43 deliveries and adorning six boundaries and a six.

Earlier, the Cavaliers’ record stalled at 149-9, despite opener Joe Clark hitting a 27-ball 52 that was strewn with eight boundaries and two sixes.

Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa completed the star turn at 3-16, while UAE walkers Akif Raja and Hazrat Luqman scored two points each.
