Plaintiff also seeks Dh20,000 for material and moral damages
A resident has been directed to return Dh100,000 he illegally took from the owner of a private school in Al Ain.
The Al Ain Civil Court of First Instance also ordered the man to pay Dh3,000 to the school owner for damages he suffered.
Official court documents said the school owner and another man filed a lawsuit against the accused, demanding that he repay Dh100,000 stolen from the school.
The plaintiff also seeks compensation of Dh20,000 for material and moral damages.
The school owner said he gave the money to the defendant in order to give it to the school administrator, the second plaintiff. The accused also signed a document acknowledging receipt of the money. However, he did not give it to school administrators. Instead, the man used the cash for personal needs.
The money was supposed to be used for school activities. It is not clear from the filing whether the defendants worked for the school.
Al Ain Crown Court had earlier convicted the man of theft and punished him.
The plaintiff then took it to civil court, demanding that it return the stolen money and compensate for the loss.
After hearing from all parties, the civil court judge issued a verdict ordering the accused to pay Dh103,000, including the money he stole and the compensation amount.
The man was also told to pay the complainant’s legal costs.
