Tucked away on 3 acres in Menchaca, armadillo nest Co-owner Brett Berry said it might appear to be just a bar at first glance, but the space offers games, a dog park, mocktails and other options, making it a place where locals can relax or watch a sporting event place.
He, along with fellow owners Josh Hazzard, Cade Archer and Skylar Reeves, plan to further expand Armadillo Den’s entertainment offerings in the coming year. The goal is to make it a place that appeals to everyone.
“We have birthday parties for 60-year-olds and gender reveals for 20-somethings,” says Berry. “I love seeing how diverse our clients are.”
He believes bartenders foster a culture that is not only vibrant but welcoming to all.
The Armadillo Den at 10106 Menchaca Way in Austin will offer live music, stand-up comedy and special events including March Madness and Crawfish Boil for the Super Bowl on February 12.
“We’ll also be offering Celtic ax throwing and parties for St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo,” Berry said.
Additionally, The Den will offer additional live entertainment during SXSW, including stand-up comedy and musical headlines.
There are several food trucks in the yard, including Pueblo Viejo, Biggie’s Yardbird, Mama Fried, and Ranch Hand.
“Our parking spaces are not very good right now,” Berry said. “So we’re offering discounts for carpooling, and we plan to offer new parking spaces soon.”
The property also has an off-leash dog park that is open daily and children are welcome until 6pm on weekdays. The venue is open to patrons 21 and older on weekends, Berry said.
Armadillo Den joins other neighborhood spots like The Hive and Lulu’s, where guests can get a feel for old-school Austin vibes, Berry said. “We’re excited to be a part of it.”
