Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) on Wednesday clarified an inaccurate report published by a local newspaper that misquoted a circular sent to hospitals in the emirate. The notice concerns the need to follow procedures related to ambulance services in non-emergency situations.

The health department said on Twitter that the Dh15,000 fine mentioned in the notification does not apply to residents or community members. Hospitals in Abu Dhabi will be subject to the penalties mentioned in the notification if the prescribed measures are not followed.

The hospital shall provide appropriate, licensed ambulances to transport to the hospital all patients whose health conditions require transfer from home to the hospital by ambulance, and transfer patients from the hospital to the home depending on the patient’s health status.

These measures also include the transfer of patients between hospitals depending on their health status, as the cost of transporting patients is covered by the current health insurance regulations in the emirate.

The ministry said it will continue to work hand-in-hand with healthcare providers across the emirate to ensure the health and safety of all members of the community and ensure they receive the medical care they need in accordance with best practices and international standards.
