PNP sends team of 10 to Abu Dhabi, led by Azurin

MANILA, Philippines – Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Commissioner of the Philippine National Police (PNP), led a 10-member team to participate in the Interpol Secretary-General’s meeting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. 24th Asian Regional Conference.

The conference will be held from February 6-11.

“It is my honor to lead the Philippine delegation to this important event and to participate in discussions on how we can further strengthen our efforts to combat the most pressing crime-related issues facing the region, including human trafficking, cybercrime, financial crime, and terrorism,” said Alan Zulin said in a statement Tuesday.

“As we celebrate INTERPOL’s centenary, more than ever we need to come together to strengthen our cooperation and global efforts to combat transnational crime. The Philippines is committed to playing its part in making this happen,” he continued.

Azurin was joined in the meeting by officers Redrico Maranan and Reynante Bastian.

Senior law enforcement officials from Interpol member countries will gather at the biennial meeting to discuss and decide how to move forward with law enforcement.

The meeting agenda included talks on operational cooperation, strengthening police capacity and prioritizing the fight against crime.

On the second day of the conference, Azurin will discuss the Philippines’ response to migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

The country leads the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials’ Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) Working Group on Human Trafficking, a standing mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the ASEAN Convention against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children.

As well as assessing police cooperation and global efforts to combat cross-border crime, the meeting agenda included discussions on operational cooperation, improving policing capabilities and focusing on crime areas in the fight against drug trafficking and counter-terrorism.

“I look forward to sharing our nation’s experience and learning from our international counterparts as we work to make our communities safer and more secure,” Azurin noted.

The chief said Interpol’s commitment to crime prevention and the advancement of justice was evident at the conference where the PNP was honored to support the cause.
