Emirates News Agency – 17th Forum of UAE Ambassadors and Representatives of Foreign Missions opens

ABU DHABI, 7th February, 2023 (WAM) — The four-day 17th Forum of Representatives of UAE Ambassadors and Missions Abroad kicked off on Monday, with ministers, ambassadors and heads of UAE missions abroad, the Ministry’s Department directors join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and senior officials.

The forum aims to discuss key topics related to foreign policy, economy, culture, innovation and advanced science to enhance UAE diplomacy.

Khalid Belhoul, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, explained in his opening statement that the UAE’s foreign policy promotes the values ​​of peace, tolerance and coexistence to achieve prosperity and strengthen diplomacy, as the UAE is committed to building common interests among nations, supporting stability, develop and grow.

“The UAE is striving to reach new heights in technological innovation and combating climate change, which has become an existential challenge and priority for all of us,” he said.

In this context, he spoke of the country’s readiness to “host COP28 this November to improve climate diplomacy, to realize the aspirations of the country and the international community to address climate change, and to strengthen the voices of the most vulnerable and underrepresented in support of Change drives the economy.”

He added: “On 20 January, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2023 the ‘Year of Sustainable Development’ to adopt a new philosophy that reflects the country’s thriving status and quality initiatives. The UAE is uniquely positioned to build bridges and accelerate progress as a hub for energy, industry, commerce, tourism, logistics and technology.”

He concluded his opening statement by emphasizing, “Our choice in the UAE is to achieve peace and prosperity within the framework of an open world order based on respect for international law and a solid network of international relations within which we have broken new ground Collaborative pathways to business, sustainable development, advanced technology and scientific research.”

The first day’s agenda included a session on “Future Prospects and Opportunities for the Next 50 Years” by Dr. Anwar Gargash, the UAE President’s Foreign Policy Adviser, in which he outlined the UAE’s foreign policy pillars, the most important of which are respect for international law, national sovereignty and Non-interference in internal affairs, and support for negotiations and dialogue.

“Our foreign policy is guided by openness and partnership, strengthening bridges of communication and dialogue, strengthening peace, and realizing shared interests that contribute to regional and international stability and prosperity,” he added.

The UAE, he said, “since the UAE became a member of the UN Security Council, has been committed to supporting mediation efforts, facilitating the diplomatic resolution of disputes, anticipating challenges, and supporting the UN Security Council’s goals of maintaining international peace and security.”

He also pointed to the need to “restore confidence in the international system and advance multilateral action to strengthen its capacity” to address crises and challenges.

He discussed the UAE’s vision for the next 50 years, focusing on economic, scientific and social progress, innovation and sustainability. He highlighted the country’s efforts to achieve advanced growth at home and abroad, saying that the UAE “has been committed to strengthening international partnerships over the past five years and is moving quickly to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of its economy, and Explore becoming the capital for new opportunity investment and economic innovation in the global economy.”

Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, discussed the UAE’s efforts to maintain its leading economic position at a session titled “G20: Turning Global Economic Gap into Growth”. Your Excellency noted that the country’s foreign policy and diplomatic reach have contributed to economic development.

Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President, referred to culture as “a bridge between people” and highlighted the UAE’s efforts to promote the values ​​of tolerance, cooperation and solidarity.

The first day of the Forum concluded with a panel discussion on the theme ‘Future Aspirations: A Technological Pathway for the UAE’ featuring Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, and Omran Sharaf, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and International, to discuss Advanced Tech Cooperation, led by Dubai Saeed Al Gergawi, Dean of the Future Academy, moderated. The meeting discussed technology development and startup incubation in the UAE, especially in the technology sector.
