The UAE Public Prosecution has warned travelers against posting travel details and photos on social media. Authorities have highlighted one case where a resident was robbed after posting travel plans online.

The UAE Public Prosecution tweeted details of the case, writing: “Nasser* is an avid social media user, regularly sharing details of his daily life and personal affairs on these platforms.

“One day, he planned a vacation with his family and documented the trip on social media by posting photos and information about the destination and tourist attractions. However, upon returning home from the vacation, Nasser was shocked to find that his house It’s been stolen.”

Authorities reminded residents that social media platforms are useful tools for keeping in touch with friends and family and keeping abreast of current events. However, personal information may be put at risk if used improperly or excessively shared.

According to a cybercrime combat official, the boarding pass contained barcodes and other information. Gangs may use these personal details for identity theft and crime.

“Many people like to show off that they are flying first or business class and post pictures of their boarding passes on social media. These travelers are unaware that criminals have access to their personal data,” Col Al Hajri said.
