Malthe Jakobsen’s hot lap tops the No. 37 COOL Racing Oreca LMP2 07 as the weather at Yas Marina Circuit begins to cool at sunset, wrapping up the 2023 Abu Dhabi Asian Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Liberty Exercise 2.
Towards the end of the 90 minutes, Jakobsen took the best time, clocking 1’41.957 – the fastest LMP2 time of the weekend so far! And, more than seven tenths above the rest of the LMP2 class.
The race was interrupted following incidents between the No. 24 Nielsen Racing Oreca and the No. 44 ARC Bratislava Oreca, which suffered damage to the floor. Full Yellow (FCY) was declared to clear debris and the meeting continued without any further drama.
Second in LMP2 was Paul di Resta, driving the number 22 United Autosports Oreca car, which was the fastest in FP1 in the hands of co-driver Philip Hanson. #98 99 Racing Oreca finished in the top three of FP2.
It is worth noting that Salih Yoluç achieved the fastest time among the Bronze class LMP2 drivers in his #3 DKR Engineering Oreca – which becomes important when the Bronze drivers qualify tomorrow morning.
Topping the LMP3 leaderboard is the No. 11 WTM of the Rinaldi Racing Duquiene D08, with Nico Varrone setting the car’s fastest lap time of 1’48.232. Second fastest was the championship-leading #29 MV2S Racing Ligier JS P320 courtesy of Fabien Lavergne in 1’48.679.
In third place is Kai Askey in the #53 Inter Europol Competition Ligier. Matthias Luethen took the bronze for fastest time in the #55 Rinaldi Racing Duquiene.
In the GT category, the difference between the first place and the 16th place is only 0.841 seconds!
The #95 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage GT3 arrived in Dubai late than scheduled due to freight issues and was the fastest GT3 car of the tournament. AMR ace Jonathan Adam leads with 1’52.992.
Brendon Leitch was second fastest again in the #19 Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3, followed by Louis Prette in third in the #59 Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 and Nicklas Nielsen in fourth in the #60 Formula Ferrari 488 GT3.
Among the bronze drivers, Thomas Merrill was fastest in the #34 Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, but he finished 15th in his class.
