Emirates News Agency – AeroFarms kicks off second annual AgTech Innovation Summit in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 17th February, 2023 (WAM) — The second annual AeroFarms AgTech Innovation Summit took place at Rosewood Abu Dhabi, bringing together over 24 speakers and over 1,000 participants from 65 different countries, Discussing the future of food and agriculture. The summit was supported by AeroFarms’ ongoing partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).
At the summit, Eng delivered the keynote speech. Abdulla Abdul Aziz AlShamsi, Acting Director General of ADIO; Sonny Ramaswamy, Chairman and CEO of the Northwest Council of Colleges and Universities and former Director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture; and David Rosenberg, Co-Founder and CEO of AeroFarms. The panel discussion was moderated by Becky Anderson, Executive Editor of CNN Abu Dhabi and Anchor, and Kelsey Warner, future editor of the UAE National newspaper.
“We are extremely excited to host the second annual AeroFarms AgTech Innovation Summit, bringing together the most cutting-edge minds to solve some of the biggest challenges of our time,” said Roger Buelow, AeroFarms Chief Technology Officer. “At AeroFarms, we are changing the future of food, And convene leaders in the field for dialogue and discussions to create collaborative and cohesive action, including research with key companies in the region, to address the growing challenges posed by growing outdoors and supply chain issues.”
At the summit, AeroFarms also announced the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and the International Center for Biosalt Agriculture (ICBA).
“AeroFarms has found an incredible ecosystem in Abu Dhabi and the UAE where we can hire talented local staff and find key partners for research initiatives with leading organizations like NYUAD and ICBA,” said AeroFarms co-founder Founder and CEO David Rosenberg commented. The signing ceremony was attended by AeroFarms co-founder and CEO David Rosenberg and NYU Dean of Science Marta Losada. This collaboration will allow us to explore the potential of indoor vertical farming and its ability to meet the needs of populations around the world. Great opportunity to pool our respective expertise and knowledge to develop innovative solutions for food production, sustainability and food security.”
The signing ceremony was attended by AeroFarms Co-Founder and CEO David Rosenberg and ICBA Director General Dr Tarifa Alzaabi. ICBA Director General Dr Tarifa Alzaabi said: “Controlled environment farming systems like vertical farming have great potential to increase food production in arid and semi-arid regions while helping to save water and other inputs. Thanks to our Center’s commitment to high We have conducted extensive research on low, medium and low-tech controlled environment farming systems, and we are excited to partner with AeroFarms for greater synergy and impact. Through this collaboration, we will be able to innovate and test resource-efficient and sustainable solutions for harsh environments. A solution for sustainable agriculture.”
ADIO has been working with AeroFarms since 2020 as part of its aim to create sustainable investment opportunities to support next generation agriculture in arid and desert environments. A partnership established through ADIO’s innovation program has led to the creation of Abu Dhabi AeroFarms AgX, the world’s largest indoor vertical farm of its kind researched and developed.
