was last listed as the winner of the UAE 1000 Guineas, MIMI KAKUSHI (Ceremonial Moments of Light in the City, directed by Vicar) Throwing in a game that’s exhausting California shippers Ami please (Goldencents) and won the G3 Emirates Oaks at Meydan on Friday by 1 1/4. She is the eighth filly to complete the Guineas/Oaks double, and the first since subsequent American class champion Shahama (Munnings) was trained by Salem bin Ghadayer in 2022.
Ami Please crosses and leads into the clubhouse turn for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Gulf from second start catching up.competitors Asaville (Nyquist), who finished fourth in the Emirates 1000 Guineas, had some collisions with Mimi Kakushi on the back extension while chasing the pacesetter. By the far turn it was a threesome with Mimi Kakushi sandwiched between enemies, but pilot Mickael Barzalona didn’t panic in the tight quarters and things began to ease as Asawer faded out of the bend.
Mimi Kakushi battled Ami Please on quarter pole and the two were fighting it out until halfway through the race. At 150 meters, Mimi Kakushi was slightly ahead of Ami Please and eventually cleared the wire for about a distance in favor of the filly. Asawer finished third, four behind.
In the first two local attempts in November and December, Woodford Thoroughbreds-bred graduated two lengths past Asawer in the Emirates 1000 Guineas Trial on 23 December. She increased her winning margin to 4 1/2 lengths in the listed UAE 1000 January 20 Guinea.
“She’s a very elegant filly and she will do everything we ask of her,” Barzalona said. “Long distance travel is in her favor. [Ami Please] Much faster than us and my filly was happy to sit in the back. In the end I felt like I had a lot on hand. “
Bin Ghadayer added: “She’s my favorite filly and she improved again tonight,” he said. “Honestly, I think the match will be easier than Guineas because she won’t be under pressure all the way.
“She was a professional mare from the start, especially in her mind, and she was easy to train. She knew she had to give everything in the race.”
“this [G2] UAE derby and [GI] Kentucky Oaks is definitely on her agenda, but we need to work with [owner] Sheikh Hamdan [bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.]”
