Phuntso Lin [Bhutan]February 20 (ANI): Bhutan’s commercial hub, Phuentshogling, has welcomed a new sophisticated market, Ka Ja Throm, where residents can experience a vibrant and lively experience, Bhutan Live reported.

On Saturday, Ka Ja Throm was inaugurated and opened to the public. This new exquisite market was initiated by royal order, a gift from the king to the people of Phuentshoglin. Ka Ja Throm is believed to revive the town’s economy.

The new Ka Ja Throm is located on the roof of the multi-storey car park in Phuentshogling, providing a vibrant and dynamic experience for all visitors. It has an open air stage as well as various food and drink units managed by DeSuups of the DeSuung Skills Program.

DeSuups are among those seen as “guardians of the peace.” DeSuung was launched on February 14, 2011 by Bhutan’s fifth king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, according to Bhutan Daily. The De-suung program aims to encourage citizens to play a role in nation-building.

“People aren’t going to get the regular food and drink that the various town areas offer. We have good food and drink here, it’s not about competing with the local businesses here. It’s about attracting more regional visitors and helping boost the local economy, said Uttar Kumar Rai of Phuentshogling Thrompon.

Unlike other Ka Ja Throm, he added that Phuentshogling’s Ka Ja Throm is primarily for entertainment.

Thrompon added: “Since we don’t have many places for international tourists to hang out, we considered using our Ka Ja Throm for entertainment purposes only. This will also help attract more regional and foreign tourists.”

In addition, it is also expected to help fulfill Phuentshogling Thromde’s goal of making the town the entertainment hub of the country, The Bhutan Live reported.

Earlier, Ka Ja Throm was incorporated into cities like Paro and Thimphu.

As part of the inauguration, Phuentshogling Thromde also kept pedestrian terminals and border gates open 24 hours. The inauguration was attended by hundreds of locals and area tourists on Saturday. (Arnie)
