Ke Huy Quan made history and achieved another milestone when he became the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Award Winner on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
51-year-old Quan Yin won the Outstanding Supporting Actor Award for his role as Wang Feng in the movie everything is everywheremany media reports.
The actor is now the first Asian male to win a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in a film.
“Thank you, thank you so much! This is such an exciting time for me,” Quan said in his speech.
Quan continued tearfully, “I was recently told that if I win tonight, I will become the first Asian actor to win the award. Hearing this, I quickly realized that this moment is no longer just for I am alone. I also belong to everyone who seeks change.
“When I left show business it was because there were so few opportunities, and now we are here tonight to celebrate. The landscape looks very different now. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these changes. Big thanks to SAG- AFTRA has given this a truly, truly prestigious honour.”
He went on to recognize his fellow and Asian nominees.
“Thanks to Michelle Yeoh – Michelle, I’m so happy that when we both started our careers in 1984, we would meet on the big screen one day. Love you Michelle. Thanks Jamie Lee Curtis and our entire cast.”
Finally, he has a message for everyone watching at home. “Finally, to all of you who are watching at home or struggling and waiting to be seen, keep going because one day the spotlight will find you. Thank you all for supporting me and I will be rooting for you. Thank you, thank you ,Thank you!”
Kwon’s win is the latest in a sweep of the awards season for the former child star, who was also recognized for his role in Everything is everywhere. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, via people magazine.
