Papua New Guinea (PNG) thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday. This was PNG’s third victory in the CWC League 2 campaign. Papua New Guinea’s victory gives Nepal a slight advantage and they are eyeing third place in the standings.
Sese Bau and Tony Ura’s half century and Chad Soper’s fifer Help PNG at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After being forced to bat first, Papua New Guinea were allowed 262 for 41.1 overs. Despite a bad start, they couldn’t get things done properly. Tony Ura’s 43-ball 81 helped the team get off to a quick start, while Sese Bau took control of the middle with 74. Despite being in a strong position at 236/5 after 40 overs, they added just 26 runs and lost all five wickets.
Karthik Meiyappan was the bowler’s choice as PNG took four wickets. Aryan Lakra and Zahoor Khan took three and two wickets respectively.
In response, the UAE were knocked out for just 131 in 34.2 overs. Chad Soper was a bowling star, claiming his second ODI title. He allowed just 25 points on 10 turnovers. The other four bowlers each take up a wicket.
Opener Muhammad Waseem was top scorer with 24 of 17 balls. Vriitya Aravind and Zahoor Khan each contributed 23 points.
The UAE (29) are now just one point clear of Nepal (28), tied with Nepal (29). Nepal and the UAE will face off on March 2.
