ABU DHABI, 1st March, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, ENEC, has moved one step closer to its goal of realizing the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy program after the third reactor at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant began commercial operations, as the plant four The full operation of the reactor will help strengthen the country’s pioneering role in emission-free energy.

Abdulla Al Menhali, Director of Reactor Operations at Barakah, said the commercial operation of the three reactors provided an opportunity for plant employees to develop expertise in reactor operations. He further added that both male and female young employees were involved in the process.
Saif Al Bahr Al Katbi, who is also the plant’s Director of Reactor Operations, emphasized his pride in being involved in the operational process, noting that he is one of the first generation of Emiratis to operate the country’s peaceful nuclear reactors.
ENEC sees Barakah as a major contributor to the success of its future plans, which include being a leader in current international nuclear technology investment and future nuclear technology.
The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is a platform that encourages innovations in the energy transition process, including micro-modular reactor models, next-generation reactors and fusion technology. It will also pave the way for the development of new carbon-free energy sources, such as industrial fuels, and the production and export of hydrogen.
The plant is a source of advanced heat and steam for heavy industry. It fosters growth and innovation through research and development in aerospace, medicine and agriculture.
It will also ensure the UAE’s energy security and be a major cornerstone in the country’s and the region’s sustainable development process.
The UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program aims to support the country’s pioneering role in the international energy sector, as well as major projects initiated by the UAE in the field of renewable energy and energy transition.
