Two new family-friendly attractions, common and a Peppa Pig Theme Parkwill soon call North Texas home.
Yes, Texas has a reputation for being a great place to do business, but young families are driving the growth, said Jack Bradshaw of the Northeast Tarrant Chamber of Commerce.
“There are a lot of young families here,” Bradshaw said. “You’re talking about Frisco. You’re talking North Richland Hills and northeastern Tarrant County. It’s a good place for a breadwinner.”
Universal’s new theme will be built by NBC 5’s parent company, and the Frisco-based park will be built along the Dallas North Turnpike, north of the Panther Creek Parkway, for children ages 3 to 11.
Peppa Pig Theme Park will take over the former Mountasia site off Highway 26 in North Richland Hills. It will be the second in the country. The other is located outside Orlando, Florida.
Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen understands the importance of attracting entertainment dollars. He saw how the city-backed Epic Waters indoor swimming park could attract new businesses. The city will soon add Big Shots Golf, Andretti Indoor Karting and Bass Pro.
“It’s like a restaurant,” Jensen said. “They don’t want to be alone. The same goes for entertainment.”
While Jensen said he would have preferred Grand Prairie with every new attraction, every new North Texas option is a win for the region.
“Not many of us can go to Cancun next week for spring break, but don’t we want to take the kids somewhere fun?” Jensen said.
Council members and the city zoning commission approved the project Tuesday despite objections from residents.
