Emirates News Agency – Emirati aid ship carrying 1,000 tonnes of food parcels arrives at Latakia port

Latakia, 12th March, 2023 (WAM) — An Emirati aid ship carrying 37,500 food parcels (1,000 tonnes) arrived at the port of Latakia today.

The move is in line with the instructions of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s representative in the Al Dhafra region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Society, as part of Operation Valiant Rider 2, as well as the UAE Ministry of Defence. Natural disasters hit Syria and Turkey last month, the Joint Operations Command said.

The ship delivered the largest amount of aid in one go to the port of Latakia, as part of the ongoing humanitarian support provided by the UAE, which will coordinate with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to deploy food supplies to the earthquake-stricken area since the quake struck last month. .

Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the ERC Board of Directors, said that the ruler’s representative in the Al Dhafra region, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was instructed by the wise leadership of the UAE to stop the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

He added that the ERC is responding for the benefit of those affected as part of the Operation Valiant Rider 2 launched by the UAE within the framework of its humanitarian commitment and solidarity with the victims of the earthquake in both countries, noting that the Authority is working on all fronts Work to alleviate the suffering left by the disaster.

He stressed that relief supplies will continue to be delivered to the Syrian people by air and sea, noting that another ship will arrive in Latakia in the coming days to deliver more essential aid to those affected.

Tayseer Habib, Chairman of the Latakia Provincial Council, thanked the UAE’s wise leadership for actively supporting Syria after the earthquake.

Habib pointed out that the aid materials delivered today include food, medicine and medical equipment, which greatly eased the suffering of the affected people.

He expressed Syria’s appreciation for the key role of the ERC and its cooperation with the Syrian Arab Arab Red Crescent in accelerating aid delivery operations, as well as the various forms of support it provides.
