The United Arab Emirates set a huge goal of 311 runs against Nepal in the final and decider of the Cricket World Cup League 2 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first, taking 310 runs in the allotted 50 overs, conceding six wickets.
UAE batsman Asif Khan was sixth in 38 overs, scoring an unbeaten century with just 41 balls. He hit the milestone with 101 runs in 42 pitches, aided by 11 sixes and four boundaries.
Third-placed Vriitya Aravind held their ground and kept the UAE’s innings tally with 94 runs from 138 balls. The batsman hit both 6 and 8 boundaries.
Likewise, captain Muhammed Waseem scored an impressive 63 off 49 balls. Rohan Mustafa and Asif Khan scored 20 and 22 points respectively for the UAE.
In response, the Nepali bowlers struggled to get the ball on a regular basis, which allowed the visitors to accumulate a lot of balls.
Lalit Rajbanshi took the first wicket for opener Aryan Lakra (6) for 2.5.
Nepal had to wait until the 17th to see another UAE batsman go as Sandeep Lamichhane caught captain Mohammad Wasim’s legs before 16.2 overs.
Chundangapoyil Rizwan (3) was eliminated with 22.6. Aayan Afzal Khan followed him with 26.1 overs after Gulshan Jha caught Dipendra Singh Airee’s pass.
Allie also hit Rohan Mustafa’s wicket to trap him in front of the legs for 37.3.
