‘Kind and generous’ Delhi teacher killed while cycling to work in UAE

Caina Healey (35), a former student at St Cecilia’s College, Delhi, was hit and killed by a car while cycling to work in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi.

The accident happened on Wednesday morning.

Ms Healy was pronounced dead at the scene as emergency services rushed to the scene.

She worked as a physical education teacher at Amity International School.

Its principal, Adrian Frost, said: “Kena has had a huge impact on the lives of her students and colleagues.

“Many of her students attribute their accomplishments, character and values ​​to the guidance and guidance they received from her.”

St Cecilia College expressed its condolences today, saying: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and untimely death of past student Caina Healey. Kaina was a popular student who lived out the school motto every day.

“A woman who loves sports, she proudly represents the school in swimming, running and triathlon.

“As an educator and sportswoman, she touched the hearts of many, including ours.

“On behalf of the entire school community, our condolences go out to her family and friends as they go through this very difficult time.”

Kaina lived in the Middle East for several years.

Amity International School describes her as a big name in the Abu Dhabi triathlon scene, and she recently qualified to represent the UAE at the Half Ironman World Championships in Finland in August.

The UAE Triathlon Federation confirmed her death in a statement.

It said: “Caina was an outstanding athlete who set the bar high for female triathletes in the UAE. We remember her as a tenacious competitor who always pushed herself to the limit and inspired Others do too.

“Caina recently finished third in the Bahrain Half Triathlon, first in the Muscat Half Triathlon Relay, and is eligible to represent the UAE at the 2023 Half Triathlon World Championships .

“Caina was an outstanding educator who impacted the lives of many students and her passing is a great loss to Amity International School and the community.

“Her passion and dedication to education is reflected in the way she motivates and supports her students, allowing her time to excel freely and regularly. Her contribution to the school sports program is invaluable.

“It’s sad to think that someone so kind and generous would leave us so unexpectedly.”

Caina is also a member of various sports groups in the Middle East, including the Al Reef group and the TriBelles.

The Al Reef organization said Caina, its only female member, had “beautiful energy” and was “always smiling”.

“Caina was the only female rider in our group [and] Let the rest of us be vigilant on our weekly ride,” the group said.

“Always on top – even with a 40km headwind – always smiling and always bringing a positive vibe. We will miss the beautiful energy that Caina brought, she was taken from us too soon .

“As with the rest of the cycling, triathlon and teaching communities in the UAE, our hearts and thoughts are with Kayna’s family during this difficult time.”

TriBelles said she was “kind, caring and very humble”.

“Sports is her passion, from which she has had a successful career. We know Amity International School and her students feel this loss as we do,” TriBelles said.

Sports group Raha said her death “will create a huge vacuum in the lives of many”.

“Her circle of friends loved her very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones and those closest to her.

“Caina hopes that in the future everyone will be able to ride more and participate in a sport that she really loves.”

The Irish embassy in the UAE also paid tribute to the physical education teacher.

“We are devastated by the passing of Caina Healey, a dear member of the Abu Dhabi community,” it said.

“An incredible athlete, a caring teacher and a great friend to many in the UAE. Caina was a beacon but left us too soon.”

A memorial service is planned for the Middle East, while details of any funeral in Northern Ireland have yet to be released.
