The two students, ages 18 and 17, have been on spring break.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the young men were riding side-by-side at the Copper Mountain ski resort in Summit County when they entered the water from the bottom of a large snowdrift, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Both teens then landed on solid ice and suffered blunt force trauma, authorities said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our condolences and condolences go out to the family and friends of the individuals involved in this tragic incident,” Sheriff Jaime Fitzsimmons said.
The teen’s body has been turned over to the county coroner’s office, which will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Authorities did not release further details.
