His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, extended congratulations to all countries celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
In his message, Sheikh Mohammed wrote: “To all those celebrating Nowruz in the UAE and around the world, I send you and your families my best wishes and may the coming year bring you continued peace and prosperity.”
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also wishes everyone a Happy New Year today. “Congratulations to all the people celebrating Nowruz today. We wish them a happy year, a spring full of peace and goodness,” he tweeted.
He wished the community “a great start to spring and a blessed year filled with goodness, peace, stability and security”.
Nowruz marks the first day of spring and is celebrated on the astronomical equinox, which usually occurs on March 21. It is celebrated by more than 300 million people around the world as the start of the new year and has been celebrated for over 3000 years in the Balkans, Black Sea Basin, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and more.
Nowruz plays an important role in strengthening ties between people based on mutual respect and ideals of peace and neighborliness. Its traditions and rituals reflect the culture and ancient customs of Eastern and Western civilizations, which have been influenced by the exchange of human values.
