To promote healthy lifestyles and address non-communicable diseases, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has entered into a strategic partnership with renowned biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The goal of the partnership is to improve the quality of life of individuals and communities by creating a world-class healthcare system.
Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, and Ruud Dobber, Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca’s Biopharmaceuticals business, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dubai to formalize the collaboration. The MOU outlines specific areas of cooperation and coordination between the two parties in promoting healthy lifestyles and combating non-communicable diseases, including oncology, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and respiratory disease.
In addition to supporting national initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing NCD-related morbidity, the partnership will facilitate the planning, implementation and strategic follow-up of related initiatives. The MoU also calls for the organization of workshops, events and initiatives to raise awareness and education on improving quality of life and combating NCDs.
In addition, the partnership will support training and capacity building programs related to the areas covered by the scope of cooperation between the two parties.
Dr Hussein Al Rand emphasized that the partnership between the Ministry of Health and Prevention and AstraZeneca will not only support the National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Policy, but will also improve the quality of life of individuals and society by promoting healthy practices as a 2031 Part of the National Wellbeing Strategy. He expressed optimism that this strategic partnership will yield positive outcomes in enhancing community health and safety. The Ministry will continue to work with partners to achieve common goals and improve the quality of healthy life in the UAE. One of the main objectives of the partnership is to organize education and awareness programs aimed at reducing NCDs across the country.
Sameh El Fangary, AstraZeneca GCC National Chairman, said that AstraZeneca was proud to partner with the Ministry of Health and Prevention and looked forward to working with the Ministry to combat NCDs and disease factors and improve the quality of healthy life.
