Smog red and yellow alerts were issued for many parts of the UAE before 9am as temperatures set to rise across the country

DUBAI: Dense fog blanketed much of Abu Dhabi and parts of Ras Al Khaimah on Friday morning. The Metropolitan Office issued red and amber alerts, warning motorists in the affected areas to drive safely as heavy fog affected visibility on some roads.

“Fog may form from reduced horizontal visibility before 9 a.m. on Friday, with further reductions in coastal and inland areas at times possible,” the National Weather Center said.

Today is a pleasant day with sunny to cloudy weather for most of the UAE, but temperatures are expected to rise gradually.

According to the Met Office, clouds will form over the mountains during the day and there is a chance of rain.

“The temperature will gradually increase. [The weather will be] Some coastal and inland areas will be wet overnight and Saturday morning, with possible fog or mist. The forecast says there will be light to moderate winds at times.

Morning temperature readings fell below 21°C across most of the UAE today, with Abu Dhabi recording a low of 9.2°C in Mezzerah.

Maximum temperatures in the country will be between 29-32°C in the coastal areas, 31-35°C in the interior and 19-24°C in the mountains.

Seas are expected to be relatively calm along the UAE coastline.
