New Delhi [India]April 8 (ANI): South Korea’s foreign minister, who is on a 2-day state visit to India, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday at a memorial service in Rajghat, New Delhi.

After laying the wreath, Park Jin also signed the visitor’s book in Rajghat.

Calling Mahatma Gandhi’s spirit of nonviolent resistance “noble”, the minister said he always cherished his teachings and advocated for democracy and human rights. He added that this was his first visit to India 27 years ago.

“I visited India 27 years ago and this is my first visit to India. I have always cherished his (Mahatma Gandhi) noble spirit of non-violent resistance,” South Korea’s foreign minister said.

“I hope we can conduct contributing diplomacy with India, South Korea’s special strategic partner, and contribute to freedom, peace and prosperity in the world,” he added.

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin’s visit to India coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Arindam Bagchi, official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), welcomed Park Jin’s visit to India on Friday, saying his visit will help strengthen the India-Korea strategic partnership.

Foreign Minister Jaishankar Jaishankar and his South Korean counterpart held discussions on advancing the special strategic partnership between India and South Korea on Friday.

“Delighted to welcome @FMParkJin from the Republic of Korea on his first official visit to India,” Jaishankar tweeted on Friday.

“Our discussions today will advance our special strategic partnership,” he wrote further.

Park Geun-hye said on Friday that South Korea wanted to upgrade its existing successful partnership with India and focus on manufacturing as well as trade, investment and supply chain stability for key minerals.

South Korea’s foreign minister also called on Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar on Friday.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, he touched on a range of topics – from India as a “soft power” to the viral “Naatu Naatu” song in this year’s Oscar-winning film “RRR”, Park Jin said Friday. Glad the South Korean embassy paid special attention to this movie, both countries need wider cultural exchange.

“Naatu Naatu dance is really popular in Korea. I saw the movie myself and it’s a great movie and story. I think it’s extraordinary and I’m glad our embassy pays special attention to Naatu, Naatu And this movie. They showed the music, singing and dancing to the Indian public and I think it’s a good way to communicate with each other,” the minister said.

“I love Bollywood movies, I’ve seen ‘Three Idiots’ and ‘Chennai Express’. I think we need a wider cultural exchange between the two countries, especially among the younger generations, to understand each other and Appreciate Indian culture and vice versa,” he added.

Regarding the strategic partnership between the two countries, Park Geun-hye said that it is mutually beneficial.

“South Korea and India have a special strategic partnership. It is a very special relationship through which we can work together with a common vision for the future, and I think we should take full advantage of this special relationship to promote our future mutually beneficial relationship.” .

The visiting foreign minister expressed optimism about India’s G20 presidency and said South Korea would be more than happy to cooperate with India. (Arnie)
