UAE’s MBZUAI advances healthcare through AI research and collaboration

[ad_1]

From personalized digital therapeutics to personalized medicine, Abu Dhabi is unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence to advance global healthcare.

Thanks to a series of recent healthcare industry partnerships and collaborations, the UAE’s Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) – the world’s first graduate research university dedicated to artificial intelligence – is A very public way to demonstrate its unique mission to undertake important research seeking individualized solutions aimed at advancing society.

In March this year, MBZUAI and IBT reached a five-year research and development agreement, and the two parties will form a joint research laboratory to develop personalized digital therapeutics for human brain health by optimizing the power of artificial intelligence technology.

personalized approach

The collaboration aims to leverage IBT’s capabilities in developing and commercializing digital therapeutics and MBZUAI’s expertise in artificial intelligence, with the ultimate goal of enabling powerful, personalized treatments for brain and mental disorders. Considering that the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than one in eight people in the world (approximately 1 billion people) suffer from some type of mental illness, depression, this personalized approach to mental health treatment is an ambitious one. The goal is according to WHO’s World Mental Health Report: Transforming mental health for all.

Earlier in March, MBZUAI announced a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BioMap, a disruptive hyperscale AI model-driven life sciences platform, to establish a biocomputing innovation research laboratory, which will be its The first – kindness in the Middle East.

Under the terms of the MOU, the parties have agreed to focus on breakthroughs in artificial intelligence-generated proteins (AIGP) based on the Middle East’s most pressing needs in healthcare, drug design and other critical areas. MBZUAI and BioMap aim to leverage joint capabilities to explore new technologies to advance protein generation, protein structure prediction, cell function prediction, and other fundamental life science challenges.

aging related diseases

One such challenge is age-related diseases, with the World Health Organization estimating that the global population aged 60 and over will double to 2.1 billion by 2050.

MBZUAI and BioMap have agreed to collaborate on the use of large-scale AI models for multi-omics pre-training to accelerate the discovery of drug targets for aging-related diseases, enabling the development of personalized treatments.

In January 2023, MBZUAI entered into an agreement with Quris-AI to develop a world-class Bio-AI Center in Abu Dhabi, a state-of-the-art facility to support faster development of safer, more highly personalized medicines , specifically for the diverse populations of the Middle East and North Africa region.

clinical prediction

Quris-AI is the world’s first bio-AI clinical prediction platform, which ensures the safety of new drugs by innovating the drug development process and groundbreaking clinical trials on a chip-testing thousands of new drug candidates on hundreds of miniaturized “patients” and effectiveness. chip”.

Quris-AI executives said that currently about 90% of new drug clinical trials fail, but their proprietary “patient-on-a-chip” technology is expected to reduce losses by predicting which drugs are most likely to work in humans. The Quris-AI system rapidly performs test interactions using predictive AI technology that mimics genetically diverse patients, eliminating the need for animal testing and avoiding the risks and costs associated with clinical trial failure.

The personalized global healthcare solutions of tomorrow are becoming possible through cutting-edge artificial intelligence research projects being launched in Abu Dhabi today, but through collaboration and collaboration with some of the world’s most innovative companies and the people they make up Completed. Now, this is the education of all future leaders in AI research and innovation. — trade arab news agency
