Dubai: Residents of Dubai saw a sudden change in the weather late Thursday morning. By 11 a.m., strong winds had unleashed dust storms in many parts of the emirate, reducing visibility on many roads and affecting motorists and pedestrians.
The Met Office has sometimes issued dust warnings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai until 6pm.
poor road visibility
A senior meteorologist at the National Meteorological Center told Gulf News: “The sudden change in weather is due to the extension of low pressure from the west. This leads to strong winds and sometimes dust blows across open areas.
“Visibility on some roads will be poor so motorists should take care when driving,” he added.
temperature rise
Temperatures have also risen across the country. In Abu Dhabi, temperatures rose to 34°C, with temperatures exceeding 30°C in most parts of Dubai.
The official also said that today it will be hot in Dubai but temperatures are expected to cool down. “For example, if it hits 38°C today, it will be around 32°C tomorrow.”
Some areas in Dubai, including Jebel Ali and Sheikh Zayed Road, had seen light rain, he added.
“We have some clouds moving from west to east and they will cause light to light rain in scattered areas,” the official added.
Light rain is expected to return to scattered parts of the country tomorrow as dark clouds move from the west to the east of the country.
