Tadweer optimizes operations to address increased food waste during Ramadan

ABU DHABI – The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) has stepped up operations in response to an increase in food waste during Ramadan.

Food waste in the emirate of Abu Dhabi is expected to increase by 5% to 8% to around 1,000 to 1,500 tons by the end of Ramadan. Tadweer’s optimized operations during the holy month are in line with the company’s vision to maintain a clean and sustainable environment in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The company is coordinating with various authorities across the UAE to organize awareness campaigns to encourage community members to adopt proper waste management practices, reduce food waste and separate waste at source. During Ramadan, Tadweer will provide efficient waste collection, transportation and sanitation services throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Ali Al Dhaheri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer), said: “As part of our efforts to achieve sustainable development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Tadweer has developed a strategic “The focus is on optimizing our operations to manage the expected increase in waste volumes. By doing so, we move towards achieving our goal of establishing sustainable waste management in the emirate by collecting, transporting, treating and disposing of waste in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner. The vision takes a step forward.”

In response to an increase in food waste, Tadweer has deployed additional workforces in hotspots to improve cleanliness in Abu Dhabi City after Iftar breaks and during morning shifts. The company also allocated additional containers near mosques and Ramadan tents, and updated the date and time for container unloading to meet Ramadan requirements. In addition, the company added 369 trucks and installed automated sweeping equipment, thereby strengthening its waste transportation and cleaning operations.

During Ramadan, Tadweer will provide municipal and solid waste collection and transport services throughout the emirate. The company’s operations include mosques, residential complexes, markets, Ramadan tents, parks, health and education facilities, slaughterhouses, farms, and waste collection points.
