Simon Cowell has revealed he has kicked the habit of smoking up to 40 cigarettes a day for decades.
The music mogul said he had been trying to quit smoking since the birth of his son Eric and finally found the ability to quit smoking for good about three or four months ago.
“I’d say yes, I’ve quit smoking. I’m vaping, so I’m not quite off the hook yet, but I don’t smoke. I haven’t smoked in three or four weeks,” this Britain’s Got Talent said the judge.
“I mean it was really, really tough. But you probably heard that I lost my voice a few weeks ago when I obviously couldn’t smoke.
“And then I realized. You know what, if I can make it through four days, I can make it through a week. I can do a week, two weeks, blah, blah. And then I’m like, well, now it’s time.
“So touching the wood, maybe that’s it. I mean, it’s going to happen sooner or later,” he added.
He went on to add that quitting smoking was part of an overall lifestyle change for better health that came after he suffered a life-threatening accident in 2022.
“There’s a moment where something like this happens in a big accident. You’re lying there. You’re utterly helpless and there’s nothing you can do about it,” Cowell explained.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world. So at that point, you realize that health is more important than anything else. But I’ve said those words before.
“And I didn’t really think about it properly. Now I’m really, really thinking. Which is to say, if you want to live a happy life, you have to make your health a priority as much as possible.”
