China ‘hopes and believes’ that Germany will support Taiwan’s peaceful ‘unification’ | World News

China’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday that China “hopes and believes” that Germany will support China’s “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan, China’s top diplomat Wang Yi told German Foreign Minister Annalene Berberk in Beijing.

Wang, director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China, told Bell Bock that China once supported the reunification of Germany and hoped that Germany would support the “peaceful reunification” of China and Taiwan.

China claims democratically run Taiwan is a separatist region and has not ruled out using force to merge the island with the mainland. The government of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has rejected China’s stance on “unification”, saying only Taiwanese can determine their future.

“The ‘Taiwan independence’ forces on the island are plotting to undermine the status quo across the Taiwan Strait and endanger peace across the Taiwan Strait,” the foreign ministry statement said.

To maintain stability across the Taiwan Strait, we must resolutely oppose separatist activities for “Taiwan independence”. China has always supported the reunification of Germany, and hopes and believes that Germany will also support China’s peaceful reunification. “

Wang Yi added that China is willing to strengthen communication with Germany.

“With 50 percent of world trade flowing through the Taiwan Strait every day, a military escalation would be a dire scenario for the entire world,” Belbook warned after a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Friday.

“The shock waves of this world economic crisis will also hit China and Germany as special trading countries,” she said, according to the EFE news agency.

Just last month, Beijing described German Education Minister Bettina Stark-Warzinger’s visit to Taiwan as “despicable”.

Belbork told Wang Yi that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and Germany as a major European country, it is very important for the two sides to strengthen dialogue and communication.

“Germany and China have many common interests, and Germany is willing to strengthen interaction and exchanges with China,” she added.

China, which abhors any official interaction between Taiwan and a third country, began three days of intensive military exercises around Taiwan on April 8 after Tsai Ing-wen returned from Los Angeles and met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
