Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, today (April 15) announced four innovations in its machine learning portfolio aimed at making generative AI more accessible to customers.
As an AI pioneer, AWS has helped more than 100,000 customers of all sizes and industries innovate with industry-leading capabilities in ML and AI. Its new solutions will drive the next wave of innovation by making generating artificial intelligence simple, practical and cost-effective for customers.
These announcements include:
• Amazon Bedrock: Build Generative AI Applications Easily – Amazon Bedrock is a new service for building and scaling generative AI applications that generate text, images, audio, and synthetic data based on cues. Amazon Bedrock provides customers with easy access to foundational models (FMs)—those very large ML models on which AI is built—as well as exclusive access to the AWS-developed Titan family of foundational models. Amazon Bedrock exposes a range of underlying models from leading vendors, so AWS customers have the flexibility to choose the best model to meet their specific needs.
• General availability of Amazon EC2 Inf2 instances powered by the AWS Inferentia2 chip: Reduces the cost and energy consumption of running generative AI workloads—very large ML models are computationally intensive to run. AWS Inferentia chips provide the highest energy efficiency and lowest cost for running demanding generative AI inference workloads at scale on AWS, such as running models and responding to queries in production.
• New Trn1n instances powered by AWS Trainium chips: Custom chips enable faster model training – generative AI models need to be trained so they provide the right answers, images, insights, or other highlights of what the model is working on.
• Free access for individual developers to Amazon CodeWhisperer: real-time coding assistance. Imagine you’re a software developer with an AI-powered coding buddy that makes your coding faster and easier.
AWS states that Amazon CodeWhisperer does just that. It uses generative artificial intelligence under the hood to provide code suggestions in real-time based on users’ comments and their previous code. It added that individual developers can access Amazon CodeWhisperer for free without any usage restrictions.
Amazon CodeWhisperer now supports more than 10 programming languages, and participants who used CodeWhisperer completed tasks 57 percent faster and successfully completed tasks 27 percent more often than participants who did not use CodeWhisperer.
Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of database, analytics, and machine learning, said: “AWS provides support at every layer of the ML stack, including infrastructure, ML tools, and dedicated AI services. Bedrock is the best place for customers to build and scale generative AI applications using the underlying model. The easy way, and Amazon CodeWhisperer is the best AI coding companion for coding safely and using AI responsibly.”
