Seoul [South Korea]April 16 (ANI): South Korea and the United States will begin large-scale regular joint air drills this week, the latest exercise aimed at strengthening deterrence against North Korea’s evolving military threat, South Korea’s air force said on Sunday, Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korea plans to deploy nearly 60 fighters, including F-35A, F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets and KC-330 tanker transport aircraft, while the United States will mobilize more than 40 aircraft, such as its air force’s F-16 fighter jets, A-10 Attack aircraft and Marine Corps F-35B and FA-18 jets.
The South Korean air force said the exercise focused on enhancing the interoperability and joint combat capabilities of the allies’ advanced fourth- and fifth-generation fighter jets, such as the F-15K and radar-evading F-35 aircraft, respectively, Yonhap news agency reported.

During the exercise, allied forces will conduct a variety of drills, including strike pack flights, defensive air countermeasures and close air support operations.
“Through this exercise, (we) will be able to reaffirm the solid Korea-US alliance and further develop the joint combat capability to another level,” said Colonel Lee Beom-ki, Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) Air Force Combat Command.
The allies have held a series of joint air drills this year amid continued threats of force from Pyongyang, Yonhap news agency reported.
On Friday, the day after Pyongyang tested what it said was a solid-fuel Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile, they held a joint air exercise involving US B-52H strategic bombers. (Arnie)
