Video widely circulated on social media showed multiple cars stacked on top of each other as the rescue operation was underway.

“This is an extremely dangerous situation for our firefighters as the building continues to collapse,” said John Esposito, chief of fire operations for the New York City Fire Department. This is the first time urban firefighters have flown a drone into a collapsed building to search for it.
“This building is completely unstable,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Online records from the New York City Department of Buildings show the building has been cited for 45 violations, 25 of which are from 2003, many of them related to elevators, according to Reuters.
