After three days of competition, Tanzania and Uganda have completed their places in Sunday afternoon’s final.
Tanzania were called to play number one by Kenya in the morning, with the prolific opening duo of Captain Fatouma Kibasu (37) and Som Godfrey Mtai (37) hitting 66 for Tanzania Quickly got rid of the restricted area.
A couple of wickets slowed Tanzania down but Perice Kamumya Zakayo’s final blitz of 34 for 18 propelled Tanzania to its highest total of the tournament so far due to wet wickets , they were reduced 146 times in 17 overs.
In response, Kenya never made the chase as they were quickly reduced to 4/3 in 3 overs, later slipping further to 20/5, and never recovered from the situation, with just 45 in 14.5 overs Second-rate.
A big win for Tanzania, which greatly improved the net run rate of that win, almost took them to Sunday’s final.
In the afternoon, UAE won the toss and was selected as the first batsman, however, UAE was unable to play the second match against the interested Ugandan team, who were cheered on by enthusiastic Ugandan fans.
The UAE’s top 4 did a lot of running scoring for them, but they failed to get the top spot as they couldn’t find the boundaries on a regular basis.
Captain Consy Aweko (2/15) took the lead from the front with the ball and she was supported by Irene Alumo (1/17) and Evelyn Anyipo (1/18) as the UAE were limited to 98/7.
In the chase, Kevin Aveino (25) and Proscovia Arako (18) opened with 31 and made some aggressive shots, especially the latter.
Kevin Avino was able to last longer but the finishing touches were done by Stephanie Nampina (13) and her best friend the flawless Nakisuyi (18) as Uganda not only won A win and also earned T20 ranking points above them for beating the top-ranked side.
Uganda’s win also means they should reach the final on Sunday if they don’t lose at least two games.
The loss all but knocks the UAE out unless other teams can help them reject Tanzania or Uganda.
Unbeaten Uganda and Tanzania meet again tomorrow morning, while the UAE concludes their tour with a game against Rwanda.
