Residents to have 4 days off to celebrate Islamic holiday after month of fasting

The new moon marking the end of Ramadan was spotted in the UAE on Thursday night. Therefore, the first day of Eid al-Fitr 2023 is Friday 21 April. This day is also the first day of the Islamic calendar month Shawwal.

This means that UAE residents will have four days off to celebrate the Islamic holiday after a month of fasting. The first long weekend of the year begins on Thursday, with offices and schools reopening on Monday, April 24.

The Moon Watching Committee has invited all Muslims in the UAE to try out the moon watching on the evening of Thursday, 29th Ramadan.

The Islamic month lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on when the moon is seen. Ramadan lasts 29 days as the moon is discovered on Thursday.

The official Eid al-Fitr holiday is from Ramadan 29 to Ramadan and applies to Emiratis and expatriates working in government departments and private companies.
