LEOMINSTER – For Mark and Christine Emma, the moment they’ve been working on for several years has finally arrived.

Their new business, a family entertainment center called Launch Entertainment, will have a grand opening on Saturday, April 22nd at 10am

Launch Entertainment is located at 118 Commercial Road in the former Toys “R” Us store at The Mall in Whitney Field.

Saturday’s event will include year-round free skydives for the first 100 people, giveaways, a photo with Launch mascot Joey, portraits by comic book artists, face painting and dancing with a live DJ.

Christine Emma said she and her husband were “very happy” that Launch Entertainment opened its doors to the public.

“It’s been a long time in the making and it’s unbelievable,” she added. “It’s been a fantastic journey. It’s been amazing to work with the city and really get us to this point. We’ve had the opportunity to iron out everything over the last few weeks and it’s been great to actually be here for the grand opening Bravo.”

On the morning of Friday, April 21, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for local officials, as well as representatives of the business and nonprofit community. Also in attendance were mascots for the Massachusetts Pirates indoor soccer team and the Worcester Bravehearts baseball team.

Inside Launch Entertainment offers a variety of services such as 10-pin bowling, a trampoline, a full ninja course with three difficulty levels, a virtual reality zone, an obstacle course, a party room, corporate and private event areas, arcade games, and a Restaurant with bar and full liquor license.

Launch Entertainment, which aims to give adults and children a place to go in the city they might not otherwise have, recently closed Roll On America in Lancaster and Mason’s Bowling and Entertainment Center in Leominster.

“My husband grew up in the Fitchburg-Leominster area his whole life and he grew up in a thriving community with always something to do,” says Christine Emma. “We’ve lived in this area for the past 30 years and we’ve just watched it all go away. … What we’ve said is we’re going to invest in the community and bring it back. That’s always been our intention, to bring everything back Back to Leominster, bring back north-central Massachusetts.”

Mark and Christine Emma have been working since 2018 to bring the Launch Entertainment chain (founded in Rhode Island six years ago) to Leominster. Christine Emma said they were two weeks away from signing a lease for 118 Commercial Road in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The lease agreement was finally signed in November 2021, and that’s when the Emmas began moving forward with their plans.

Meanwhile, Gardner Discount Furniture, which has occupied the former Toys R Us space since 2019, will move next door to the former Macy’s in the Whitney Field mall in the summer of 2022.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to actually be here, you know, in April,” Kristen Emma said.
