New Delhi [India]April 21 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal said the lack of peace in certain parts of the world can be resolved through the teachings and principles articulated by the Buddha.

The minister referred to the Global Buddhist Summit held in New Delhi and said the teachings of the Buddha are very important in today’s world. He said 170 delegates from about 30 countries attended the Global Buddhist Summit.

Meghwal said that the ‘amrit’ arising from these discussions during the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Kaal’ will help in establishing peace in all countries of the world.

“Problems in the world are due to terrorism, in some countries due to separatism, due to internal security… Buddha’s teachings are based on peace and non-violence, which is consistent with Indian philosophy. Even today, Buddha’s Thoughts are also important,” Megwal told ANI.

The messages of peace and prosperity are interlinked, Meghwal said.

“Peace and prosperity go hand in hand. The message from the vishwagurus is that if peace is disturbed, so is prosperity.”

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that India gave Buddha, not war.

He did not say by name that some countries believe in radicalism, which is not good. “Why go down the path of destruction?” he asked.

Megwal also said that paranoia should be avoided. “My way is the highway is not right either. You should think about your way and go,” Megwal said.

The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), hosted the Global Buddhist Summit in New Delhi. The theme of the Global Buddhist Summit is “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: From Philosophy to Practice”.

Meghwal mentioned that India’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and G20 can set the agenda for peace, prosperity and governance for the world. (Arnie)
