WORLD NEWS | Sharjah Book Authority announces second annual International Booksellers Conference

Sharjah [UAE]23rd April (ANI/WAM): Following the huge success of the inaugural session of the World’s First International Booksellers Congress in Sharjah, the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has announced its second annual conference and an even stronger , a more comprehensive program to showcase knowledge and experience to global ecosystem stakeholders, upskill professional skills, and identify emerging business opportunities, especially in the Arab region.

Scheduled to take place during the 14th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) at Sharjah Expo Center on May 1-2, the two-day event will bring together 383 book dealers, including 160 from China and 223 from 52 countries around the world.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, will be the keynote speaker at the two-day event. The conference will also hear speeches from SBA Chairman Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri; renowned businessman Marcus Doller; former CEO of Penguin Random House, Kinokuniya UAE Steve Jones, and more.

In addition to Booksellers Conference’s exceptional matchmaking and networking platform, attendees can choose from 18 workshops and roundtables and 15 publisher pitches to enhance skills and explore specific areas of business interest. A global perspective on shaping a more resilient, prosperous future for booksellers.

The 2nd International Booksellers Congress also designed a proprietary platform to facilitate publisher pitches and enable direct sales between publishers and distributors.

The platform will showcase 15 well-known Arabic and international publishers and distributors including Penguin Random House, Wonder House, Austin Macauley, Bonnier/Igloo, Kogan Page, Pan Macmillan, Difference Engine, MMS, Avicenna, Bookland Press, Lightning Source , Aseer Alkutoob, Estifan, Alshamel and Dar Amnah.

The program of workshops, roundtables and pitch presentations will be accessible to attendees over the two days of the event, alongside the conference’s original webinar, introduced last year.

Mansour Al Hasani, Director of Publisher Services at SBA, said: “The International Booksellers Conference will highlight the latest strategies, tools and technologies that today’s booksellers need to successfully navigate the fast-changing and digitally driven book market.
