Sony Pictures Classics announced Wednesday that it has acquired the worldwide rights to “Carlos,” a feature-length documentary about the father of Latin American jazz fusion and global icon Carlos Santana.
Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Rudy Valdez directs the documentary (“The Sentence,” “We Are: The Brooklyn Saints.”)
Using never-before-seen or heard archival footage and music, the film offers an intimate and uplifting insight into the fundamental power of contemporary music and tells the incredible story of Santana’s life — from a 14-year-old year-old street musician to a global sensation with ten Grammys and three Latin Grammys.

Carlos, co-financed by Imagine Documentaries and Sony Music Entertainment, is produced by Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes and Lizz Morhaim, and is executive produced for Imagine Documentaries by Academy Award-winning producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. Leopoldo Gout, Ashley Kahn and Sam Pollard also serve as producers.
Meredith Kaulfers is co-executive producer for Imagine Documentaries, and Michael Vrionis is executive producer. Tom Mackay and Richard Story are executive producers for Sony Music Entertainment.
