Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Excitement at CinemaCon

[ad_1]

las vegas – Universal Pictures revealed a major part of its CinemaCon presentation: new footage from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

“I know of no more dramatic story with higher stakes, twists and paradoxes,” Nolan told a roomful of theater owners in Las Vegas on Wednesday. “In learning about that story, I wanted to go into that room and see what it must have been like.”

In theaters July 21, “Oppenheimer” tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant and charismatic physicist with whom he met at Los Alamo Together with colleagues at Los Alamos, they developed the atomic bomb and changed the world. Cillian Murphy, a frequent Nolan collaborator, is back in “Batman Begins,” where he’s featured in a cast that includes Matt Damon, A stellar cast, including Emily Blunt, plays the lead role.

“Like it or not, he was the most important person who ever lived. He made the world we live in, for better or worse. His story has to be seen to be believed,” Nolan said. His story is part dream and part nightmare. “

Nolan shot the film in large format IMAX in color and black and white, but “not too much black and white, don’t worry,” he said.

“Oppenheimer” marks Nolan’s first collaboration with Universal Pictures, after parting ways with his longtime studio, Warner Bros., as the studio pivots to streaming for its 2022 release.

The filmmaker has always been an ardent defender and advocate of cinema, and “Oppenheimer” is no exception, with 70mm IMAX, 35mm, Dolby Vision and other premium large-format releases all over the world.

Nolan also stated that he can neither confirm nor deny that the full-length trailer will play before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″, opening May 5.

The Universal team, including Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Donna Langley, were in Las Vegas for their annual meeting just after news emerged that Jeff Scheer, CEO of NBC Universal and one of the top executives in the media industry, had left following an investigation. The company became inappropriate after a few days.

Shell manages a large portfolio of assets including film studios. Previously, he served as chairman of NBC Universal Pictures and Entertainment. Parent company Comcast had not named a successor as of Wednesday.

The studio team has been basking in the recent box office success of Illumination’s “Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which has grossed more than $900 million worldwide. It will be the first film to cross $1 billion at the box office in 2023, a milestone that will be reached next week, Langley said.

“Mario” also came on the heels of hits like “Cocaine Bear” and “M3GAN,” which Universal’s head of domestic distribution Jim Orr noted also dominated cultural conversations from memes to late-night feeds.

“We’re betting on the audience,” Orr said. “We believe the best days are ahead of us, not behind us.”

Of their 2023 list, Orr said: “The comedy is crazier, the horror is scarier, and the story is more gruesome. And ‘Fast X’ is faster and more violent than any game you’ve seen before.”

Will Ferrell takes to the stage with a dog named Sophie to talk about his R-rated comedy Rover (June 9) with Jamie Foxx (Jamie Foxx) plays a puppy with a dirty mouth. Sophie, said Ferrer, plays his character Reggie in the film.

“She’s not that cute, and you don’t have to be critical of her all the time,” Ferrer said. “Hey, photographer, let’s try to keep our balance. One shot for her, one shot for me.”

“I’ve won three Emmys and a Mark Twain, and you’re constantly on the sidewalk (expletive),” he added.

Ferrer later apologized to Sophie. This stunned the crowd.

Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick also jazzed up the room, talking about “Trolls Together,” which opens Nov. 17.

“Hey Ak-Attack. Ak-Attack,” Timberlake said. “I am excited.

After a while, he clarified that he wasn’t. Kendrick says in the film that their characters have left the “friend zone.”

“Get ready to rock and trooooolll,” Kendrick yelled, quipping at her straight male counterpart, “Happiness is a choice.”

DreamWorks Animation has teased “Ruby Gilman’s Teenage Siren,” which is set to hit theaters on June 30, about the part of the siren trying to survive high school, voiced by Lana Condor.

“We think it has the potential to be the female power movie of the summer,” said DreamWorks Animation president Maggie Cohen.

Jason Bloom and David Gordon Green, who teamed up on the “Halloween” revival, also debuted the new modern “Exorcist” film “The Exorcist,” in which two children are possessed. It’s the first of a planned trilogy that will bring back Ellen Burstyn and hit theaters on October 13.
