Last week, more than 800 dancers showed up at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall to audition for the Rocketeer. There was an additional special guest: 92-year-old Mary Silvestri of Connecticut, who finally got the chance to attend.

During her visit to Radio City Music Hall, Silvestri revealed that she tried to audition for the dance company decades ago but couldn’t find her way to New York

I should be here doing what you’re doing Today, I couldn’t make it,” she said, as seen in footage shared on social media by the world-renowned dance troupe.

“I couldn’t go to New York alone, and there was no one to take me there,” she explained. “So I’m here today to meet you ladies and wish you all success.”

Silvestri and her family were greeted warmly upon their arrival at Radio City Music Hall, LeBar told PEOPLE.

Later, LeBar had the opportunity to speak with Silvestri and one of her dance partners, and the pair taught the 92-year-old how to pose for photos in Rockettes’ “signature” angled angle.

After the audition, Marie had some wise words: “Keep going, keep going, go to dance school,” she says. “Do your day job and enjoy it. You have to enjoy what you’re doing.”

Lebar said hearing Silvestri’s story reminded her of how “lucky and grateful” she is to be a Rockette.
