Wynn Resorts has announced that it will build the first gaming resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), due to be completed in early 2027. The Las Vegas-based casino operator is one of the largest in the world, as are resorts in Boston and Macau. The gaming resort in Ras Al Khaimah will cost about $3.9 billion and is expected to have 1,500 rooms, 24 dining and bar spaces, spa services and high-end shops.

The company has avoided the term gambling because it goes against Islamic beliefs, but promises exceptions entertainment and gaming facilities. “Wynn Al Marjan Island has been carefully planned and conceived over the past year, with careful consideration for its unique location,” said Craig Billings, CEO of Wynn Resorts.

The UAE’s pivot to gaming and esports comes as neighboring Saudi Arabia invests some $38 billion to become a gaming hub. The country acquired well-known esports centers ESL and FaceIt, and organized several large-scale esports tournaments to develop local talent.
