Second evacuation plane from Sudan arrives in UAE – News

Those evacuated included vulnerable groups such as those with young children, the elderly and women

A second evacuation plane carrying 136 evacuees, including UAE citizens, diplomats and nationals from nine other countries, took off from Port Sudan on Sunday as part of its ongoing humanitarian mission in conflict-affected Sudan. Arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 4:45 p.m.

“The evacuation is in line with the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and efforts to promote international solidarity and cooperation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Mofaic) said in a statement sent to the Khaleej Times.

Those evacuated included vulnerable groups, including young children, the elderly and women. “The UAE will host evacuees from other countries and provide them with all necessary support and assistance prior to their departure. [the] transferred to their respective home countries,” Mofaic said.

The first batch of evacuees from the UAE from conflict-torn Sudan arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. A total of 128 people from 16 countries – including the UAE, Bahrain, UK, Iraq, Serbia, Pakistan, Syria, Sudan, Indonesia, US, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Yemen, Tanzania, Ireland and Bangladesh – landed on the flight Departure from Port Sudan at 2.45pm.
