RAPID CITY — Ferris State students turned the Dewaine and Jana Robinson Quad into a party Thursday afternoon The carnival of spring.
Organized by the FSU Student Programming Committee, the event includes concerts by two bands, Lost Stars and The Wonderlands, food trucks, temporary tattoo artists, comic artists and more Unlimited entertainment.
Students were seen lining up to get temporary tattoos, trying not to get run over by a mechanical bull painted to look like Brutus the Bulldog, before sitting on the grass in a courtyard house listening to music.
EU adviser Ben Avery said the event culminated the group’s work this term. Additionally, it is designed to provide students with a way to unwind during final exam week.
“It’s a great way for students to blow off steam and have some fun before or after finals,” he said.
Student Krista Osmun said it was great to be out on a good day.
“It’s a great opportunity to get away from things like computer screens before finals,” she said.
Angel Buckley, Osmun’s friend and Ferris classmate, said it was a good pastime.
“It helped me procrastinate on doing all my work and gave me a reason not to go to school,” she said.
Another student, Gypsy Bates, echoed the sentiment.
“I think it’s good, it’s good to have a break during exam season,” she said.
Bates’ friend Nora Fiero said it was a great day outside and appreciated the fact that it was outdoors.
Student Ian Wells said it was a great opportunity to socialize before the end of term.
“I love it, especially because it’s the last thing you can do with college friends before summer break,” he said.
Professor Paul Kwant of the Business of Music Entertainment program recorded two bands with the help of students.
“Thankfully, I have some great students and musicians to work with,” he said.
Miles Jena, guitarist and singer of The Wonderlands, said the event would have made him feel better if he had been a student.
“You guys are really nice and you have a great vibe on campus,” Jena said.
Lost Stars singer Damian Malnar said he was excited to be in Michigan on a good day.
“I think it’s probably one of the more deliberate events I’ve seen before,” Malnar said.
Entertainment Unlimited members helped sell Lost Stars merchandise and managed other parts of the event.
“In terms of marketing and other aspects of the setup, all of our EU member states are very involved,” Ben Avery said.
