ISLAMABAD, May 5 (PTI) An Islamabad court announced on Friday that it will indict former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 10 for allegedly concealing proceeds from the sale of state gifts.

The Toshakhana case was brought against Khan last year after Pakistan’s Election Commission ruled that Khan had failed to declare funds he had received after selling gifts from foreign dignitaries.

The toshkhana is a treasury where gifts from foreign dignitaries are presented in honor.

Khan, 70, challenged the sustainability of the case, but additional session judge Humayun Dilawar of the Sessions Court dismissed the plea and objection on jurisdiction after hearing the lawyer’s arguments.

The judge announced the indictment of the defendant Khan and personally summoned the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek Movement (PTI) on the day of the prosecution.

The court had previously set to indict him on February 7, but the process was postponed several times due to Khan’s absence and his lawyers pressing for a decision on the sustainability of the case.

The case was based on a Nov. 22 ECP ruling last year that decided to bring Khan to trial, a reference later filed with the court alleging that he had misled officials about gifts he had received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as prime minister.

The cricketer-turned-politician now faces more than 140 charges against him, including treason, terrorism, murder, attempted murder, blasphemy and other charges.

Khan was ousted last April after losing a no-confidence vote he claimed was part of a US-led plot against him because of his independence in foreign policy decisions on Russia, China and Afghanistan.

Talking informally with reporters at the Islamabad High Court on Thursday, Khan said a double-hundred case would be filed against him soon.
