Rumors swirled about a 2023 Summer Musical during Christmas at the palace in December. Director Claire Cook and I had to laugh because the biggest rumor was about a show we didn’t even notice – “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” I did my best to quell that rumor, but when it came to the crunch, our top four were gone, and we ended up doing Beauty and the Beast anyway. So, I guess, we had the last laugh.
That being said, we’re excited to kick off our “Season of Magic” with Disney’s fantastic family show about a handsome but arrogant prince who is transformed into a terrifying beast by a wicked witch until he finds true love. Directed by Clare Cooke and choreographed by Kristi Wink, the show will run on the main stage from July 8-16.
Tickets for the Summer Musical and the entire Season of Magic will go on sale to the public on May 30. In August, we’ll be performing the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Next to Normal” at the May Pavilion, directed by Dustin Rawlins.
Other highlights of our new season include the October youth musical “Little Disney Finding Nemo,” directed by Kristi Wink. We’ll kick off the holidays on the first weekend of December with ‘Christmas at the Palace 2023’, followed by ‘A Ladies Christmas in the Crypt: Away from the Crypt’ on 15 December.
In February 2024, we will be presenting our annual teen drama, Under the Big Top, directed by Emily Yaksic. She’ll be doing double duty, as she also directs our coming-of-age drama Lend My Tenor in April.
Next season’s headlines will include Grammy-winning boy band “All-4-One” in November and an up-and-coming country band performing in May 2024, whose name we’ll announce in June.
Other highlights from our Season of Glamor include The Tribute Band, featuring music from Alien, Journey, The Rolling Stones, Cher, Aretha Franklin and the Avery Brothers. By popular demand, returning in April 2024, “Mutts Gone Nuts – A Canine Cabaret” will be fun for the whole family.
