Eid al-Adha in the UAE: How employees can convert 6 days off to 9 or 10 – News

According to astronomical calculations, the public and private sectors will enjoy holidays from the 9th to the 12th of Hijri, the last month of the Islamic calendar

Residents of the UAE will enjoy the longest holiday of the year, spanning six days, next month during Eid al-Fitr.

On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which will be the second long holiday this year after Eid al-Fitr in April, the government announced a four-day holiday. This includes one day of Arafah and three days of Eid al-Fitr.

According to astronomical calculations, public and private sectors in the UAE will enjoy holidays from the 9th to the 12th of Zul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, which is based on the lunar calendar and consists of 29 or 30 days.

According to the most widely used Gregorian calendar in the world, Eid al-Fitr (also known as the Feast of Sacrifice) is celebrated from Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2, inclusive.

But UAE residents who apply for a day off on Monday, June 26, can convert those six days into nine or 10 days, provided their companies also approve it.

Based on these calculations, employees in the UAE are entitled to nine days off from Saturday 24 June to Sunday 2 July.

On the other hand, those working for the Sharjah government can take 10 days off, as the emirate works four days a week.

Since the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar calendar, the confirmed date is announced once the Zul Hijjah moon is seen in June.
