Pakistani mangoes will arrive in the UAE later this month, as directed by the Pakistani government’s export policy.
Mustafa Altaf, managing director of Altaf Hussain Trading Co., said that according to the deadline set by Pakistan’s Ministry of Economy, the king of fruits will start exporting to the UAE and other countries around the world on May 20.
Altaf added that the national harvest this year has been very good; therefore, supply will also be strong and prices will be more economical.
Popular around the world, Pakistani mangoes are one of the South Asian country’s major fruit and vegetable exports, earning millions of dollars for the agricultural nation’s coffers.
About a dozen types of Pakistani mangoes are exported to the UAE. Some of the most popular varieties include Chaunsa, Langra, Sindhri, Anwar Ratool, Dusehri, Saroli, Almas, Fajri, etc.
The first varieties to arrive in the UAE are Sindhri, Almas and Dusehri from Sindh province, with others arriving from Punjab.
Pakistan is one of the largest mango exporters in the world after India, China, Thailand and Indonesia. Apart from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, UK, US, Canada, EU countries and Singapore are the main export destinations of Pakistani mangoes.
Currently, there are four types of Indian mangoes available in the market – Alphonso, Badami, Kesari and Rajapuri.
Mangoes are cheap this year
Altaf said that due to strong production, prices in the UAE will be more economical than last year due to the depreciation of the rupee, which fell to 78.3 this month from 50.6 in May 2022 to the UAE dirham.
“As an added bonus, the rupee has fallen sharply against the UAE dirham over the past year, which has also made imports from Pakistan cheaper,” he said, adding that the Middle East is one of the main export regions, with the UAE accounting for the largest Share of mango exports by exporting region.
