Kathmandu [Nepal]May 10 (ANI): Nepal’s former home minister and leader of Nepal’s parliament, Balkrishna Khand, was arrested at his residence on Wednesday on charges of allegedly trafficking Nepalese nationals as Bhutanese refugees abroad.

According to the police, Khand was arrested at his residence in Chabahil and detained at the Kathmandu police station on suspicion of involvement in the scam.

Shyamlal Gyawali, Assistant Inspector General of Wali Police, told ANI by phone: “We detained him based on the statement of someone who was arrested earlier for sending a non-Bhutanese refugee to a third country as a Bhutanese refugee”.

Khand was arrested for participating in a scam in which many Nepalese nationals were defrauded of huge sums of money by promising to send them to the U.S. as Bhutanese refugees.
