LOS ANGELES (AP) — With stars like Margot Robbie and Lil Nas X sitting front row, Virginie Viard’s Hollywood glamor-inspired sportswear designs also shone at the Chanel show in Los Angeles.
The fashion brand took down the Paramount Pictures lot on a chilly Tuesday night to unveil its latest cruise collection. It was such a compelling spectacle that even Snoop Dogg danced from his comfy grandstand seats while the models strutted around the black and white Chanel basketball court with two large scoreboards.
A giant screen the size of a stadium played various black-and-white videos of Chanel models dancing and aerial shots of palm-fringed Los Angeles.
The expansive courtyard gave the models room to work in front of a star-studded crowd that included Kristen Stewart, Elle Fanning, Issa Rae, HER, Nile Rogers, Paris Hilton , Andra Day, Leslie Mann, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kris Jenner, Kimora Lee Simmons, Christina Milian and Lori Harvey.
Viard brings her vision of a California sports vibe to life with swimwear, sports bras, sparkly dresses, skirts, blazers and platform shoes with glowing heels, available in shades of pink, lavender and black .
The last time Chanel hosted a cruise line in the Los Angeles area was in a hangar at Santa Monica Airport in 2007. Previous cruise shows were held in Provence, France and Monte Carlo, Monaco.
After the nearly 30-minute performance, Viard took a bow and gave a short performance, and the audience applauded her effort. Spectators are entertained both before and after the event by skaters who skate through the crowd and sometimes dance together.
As a special performer, Snoop Dogg kept the good times rolling with his hits including “Gin and Juice,” “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “Beautiful.” The rapper brought Anderson .Paak to perform “Smokin Out the Window.”
Dogger, who also served as showrunner during his show, took his family along and said it was his first time attending such an event.
“I’m going to bring the hood to the show,” he told the crowd.
