Argenta’s ‘Crime of Mind’, chamber choir concert tops entertainment agenda

Drama “Crime”

Beth Henley’s “Crime of the Heart” at the Argenta Community Theater, dinner theater show – dinner at 6:30 pm, curtain call at 7:30 pm – through Saturday, theater seating only, week Sunday 2pm and Wednesday 7:30pm – May 20 in ACT II: Sharon Heflin Center for Performing Arts Education, 315 Main St., North Little Rock. Directed by Laura Grimes, the cast includes Angela Collier, Finley Daniel, Laura Landefell, Jessica Milonas, Austin Rogers and Thomas Williams .

“House of Paradise”

The Arkansas Chamber Choir wraps up their season with a concert titled “Heavenly House,” at 509 Scott Street in Little Rock at 7:30 p.m. Christ Anglican Church held. The Hot Springs Flute Ensemble celebrates its 40th anniversary with a “Magic Flute Tea Party” Sunday at 2:30 pm at the Oaklawn Race and Casino Events Center, 2705 Central Avenue, Hot Springs. The ensemble conducted by Carlos Felter will perform “Magic Chords”; “Eternal Springs,” a commissioned piece from the orchestra; “Horse Park,” a tribute to Oakland; and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Magic Flute” Prelude. Guests of the Country Choir, conducted by Tom Bolton, will sing Maurice Durufle’s “Ubi Caritas” and a Moses Hogan/Benjamin Harlan adaptation of “Old Times Religion.” SAI Cantate will perform a special song about tea with director Kathie White. The flute ensemble and choir will perform the title song from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” The event will also honor orchestra founder Jackie Flowers. ‘A Simple Heart’

Scottish Arts Camp

The Lyon Academy Scottish Heritage Program will host the 2023 Scottish Art Summer School for five days from 11-16 June at the Lyon campus at 2300 Highland Road, Batesville. Participants will learn to play the pipe from renowned bagpipe instructors: Kenton Adler with beginners and novices on technique, steady playing, tuning, competition preparation, and piping for weddings and funerals; Willie McCallum, Jack Lee and Jimmy Bell will focus on more advanced techniques and tunes.

Tuition is $650, $950 for participants requiring on-campus housing (with double bed; meals will be provided by College Dining Services), with a $50 discount for students under 18 and groups of three or more.
