HE Dr. Sultan Al Jaber leads UAE delegation to GCC industry conference

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber: “The UAE is committed to strengthening relations and cooperation with Gulf countries to increase investment and promote sustainable economic growth.”

Muscat, Oman: His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, led a high-level UAE delegation to a series of meetings attended by GCC Ministers of Industry and Trade. The meeting of the GCC Industrial Cooperation Committee and the GCC Standardization Ministerial Committee was held in Muscat, aiming to strengthen industrial ties within the GCC and support the sustainable development of the regional economy.

The UAE delegation included H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, H.E. Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Advanced Technology and Abdulla Alsaleh, Deputy Minister of Economy Your Excellency, and representatives from government and private sector entities.

Oman, the current chairman of the GCC Council, chaired the meeting of the GCC trade and industry ministers on Thursday and held a preparatory meeting on Wednesday involving the vice-ministers of trade and industry to discuss the agenda, latest developments, key topics and reports.

The 50th meeting of the Industrial Cooperation Committee and the fifth meeting of the Standardization Ministerial Committee discussed a number of topics to strengthen cooperation in the fields of industry, standards and metrology, and plans to strengthen cooperation among member states.

“GCC industrial ties deepen”:

His Excellency Al Jaber underscored the UAE’s commitment to strengthen strategic ties, especially in terms of investment opportunities and industrial cooperation: “These meetings reaffirmed the deep relationship between the GCC countries, especially in the industrial sector, which has a sustainable economy at home The GCC plays an important role in the growth of the Gulf. The GCC represents a model for multinational cooperation to achieve effective and sustainable economic development.”

“The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology is working to consolidate efforts and develop a comprehensive investment roadmap to facilitate the implementation of advanced technologies to drive sustainable industrial development,” His Excellency said.

“We are committed to promoting the sustainable development of the industrial sector, increasing the competitiveness and improving the quality of UAE products, while promoting the UAE as an attractive regional and international center for industrial investment by providing benefits, enablers, including those from the Gulf region. industrial investment centers, incentives and financial solutions for investors.”

His Excellency continued: “As the UAE prepares to host COP28, we stress the importance of fraternal cooperation to strengthen climate action. Gulf countries must work together to increase investment in energy transition and decarbonisation. lay the groundwork for more sustainable economic development in key economic sectors.”

“The UAE has created a pioneering model for strengthening economic and development partnerships and engaging the private sector for sustainable growth,” he added.

Industrial cooperation:

His Excellency Al Jaber joined His Excellency Al-Zeyoudi in the meeting of the Industrial Cooperation Committee to discuss the report of the Committee’s previous meeting. The meeting also followed up on the achievements and directives of the Council of Ministers to address the challenges of economic integration.

Ministers also reviewed revised controls on industrial inputs exempt from taxes and duties, as well as recommendations of the Standing Committee on Combating Harmful Practices on the role of the Economic Cooperation Council to further protect Gulf industries from unfair competition. The meeting also presented reports on the activities of the Technical Secretariat on Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade and the achievements of the Gulf Group of Industry Consultants (GOIC).

Standardization and Consistency:

His Excellency Al Jaber also participated in the fifth meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee on Standardization, which detailed the progress of the Committee from October 2022 to April 2023. In terms of norms and metrology, the Commission proposes to approve 10 items as Gulf Technical Regulations and to adopt sector-based regulations under Conformity, in addition to the Commission proposing to Council the use of a Conformity Marking System as an alternative to the Gulf Conformity Mark.

Ministers discussed the series of Memorandums from the GCC Standardization Ministerial Committee on the 2022 Summary Accounts, the Gulf Accreditation Centre, the rotating presidency for the period from April 2024 to April 2027, the establishment of the Cooperation Council Quality Awards, and as an emerging trend.

The members of the GCC Standardization Ministerial Committee include His Excellency Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Commerce and Industry of Bahrain, His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kasabi, Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Isaiah bin Mohammad Al Yusuf Industry and Investment Promotion, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, and Mohammad bin Osman, Minister of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait · His Excellency Aiban, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council His Excellency Jassim Mohammad Budewi.
